Transnational Activism in Lebanon's Women's Movement: Between FITNA, FAWDA, and Feminism

This thesis investigates transnational campaigns from the international and state level to consider the existence of transnational activism in Lebanon’s women’s movement. Lebanon’s women’s movement serves as an example to analyze the effects of transnationalism on national campaigns for policy change, in the Lebanese case, reformed personal status laws and citizenship rights.

Towards Formality: Promoting the Rights of Women and Men Workers in Arab Countries

This paper applies a gender equality and workers’ rights perspective to the study of informal employment in the Arab region. It highlights key outcomes of a joint regional initiative of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Centre of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR) on “Gender Equality and Workers’ Rights in the Informal Economies of Arab States”. It summarizes insights on the nature of employment in the informal economies of the region. The paper looks at informality of employment as a deficit in social and economic rights.

Engaging Men to Prevent Gender-Based Violence: A Multi-Country Intervention and Impact Evaluation Study

Over the span of three years, Instituto Promundo, with support from the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, implemented a multi-country project to engage men and boys in preventing violence against women and promote gender equality. Project activities in each country varied but all included educational workshops with men and young men on gender equity and training programs with partner staff on evidence-based methodologies for the prevention of violence against women.

Human Rights Conditions in Lebanon

This publication is a compilation of reports prepared by group of civil society organizations in light of the review of Lebanon under the first-cycle of Universal Periodic Review (2010).The booklet includes the report reviewing conditions of economic and social rights in Lebanon, in addition to a report on the rights of women, rights of persons with disabilities, and the rights of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
