Legal and Policy Framework of Migration Governance

This report aims to provide a contextual understanding of migration governance in the Lebanese context, as well as its implications for refugees and migrants. Towards this end, this report provides an overview of the legal and policy framework in Lebanon, notably within the context of the Syrian refugee crisis erupting in 2011. Moreover, the report critically evaluates the legal statuses – if any – pertaining to ‘asylum seekers’, ‘refugees’, and ‘migrants’ on the one hand, and the role of state and non-state actors on the other.

Assessing civil society initiatives in the field of economic and social rights

The second report is an evaluation of civil society initiatives on economic and social rights, including a series of civil society initiatives focusing on multinational companies, free trade agreements, the right to decent work, the right to form trade unions, the right to an adequate standard of living, including access to housing, water and a clean environment.

This report summarizes the conflict context of the Hasbaya and Marjaayoun Qazas of the Nabatieh Governorate, a religiously and politically diverse area which has for decades been at the forefront of regional dynamics and conflicts.A long history of coexistence between diverse key actors,  as well as economic and geostrategic interdependence, national level political will and existing local networks of communications, is maintaining the region’s stability and safeguarding it from being drawn into the adjacent battles of the Syrian crisis.

Working Paper No. 459: Development Ethics Through the Lenses of Caring, Gender, and Human Security

This paper explores some faces of globalization by using a gender perspective, in order to consider reproduction (psychological and emotional as well as biological) and the activities and attitudes of care that give moral resources for response to systemic tragedy, not only for identifying and understanding it. There now exist globally interconnected systems of vulnerability and capability, for which matching systems of human security, care and responsibility are needed in order to protect human dignity.

Lebanese NGO Report on Sustainable Development In Preparation for the World Summit on Sustainable Development

This report is the result of the effort by a group of Lebanese NGOs working in the fields of environment, development, and human rights. Before its publication, the report was discussed in a national workshop, to elaborate it and to allow for wide participation in the debate on sustainable development.

Human Rights Conditions in Lebanon - Civil Society Considerations in Light of Universal Periodic Review

This publication is a compilation of reports prepared by group of civil society organizations in light of the review of Lebanon under the first-cycle of Universal Periodic Review(2010). The organizations are mentioned inside the publication according to the report they participated in preparing or supporting. The universal periodic review is one of the new mechanisms adopted by the United Nations to examine the commitment of states in implementing international covenants and conventions concerned with human rights.
